Write your introductory paragraph letting the writer know of your intentions. 4. Write two detailed paragraphs - one that discusses the similarities and one the shares differences. 5. Write your conclusion paragraph to wrap up your essay. Reminders: * 4th and 5th grade students should be able to write 5-7 sentence paragraphs. * Your final product will have at least 4 paragraphs * Spelling and grammar WILL count so be sure to proofread! * Indent each paragraph Here are the links to the short tutorial videos that may help you get started. https://youtu.be/QyjcEa4Z9Dc Brainstorm and Introduction https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHJDfbN4sJQ Adding details (supporting paragraphs) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HF2Ae59aQR4 Writing the conclusion Please feel free to view them before you get started as a reminder of what is expected in your essay. Our 4th and 5th graders are continuing to work on our unit, "Perspectives." We discussed various view points of historians, as well as the phenomenon known as inattentional blindness and change blindness. The students were amazed to realize how our brain works and that sometimes we naturally see what we want to see versus what is actually in front of us!
Hands-On Equations for our 4th graders is about to introduce the concept of negative integers. It is VERY important that our students understand the basic steps and legal moves taught in Level one, before they will be able to fully grasp the concepts that we are beginning in Level 2. Please let me know if your child needs extra practice and I am happy to send home our HOE pieces and links to various videos for the children to view and practice with at home. 5th grade students will be starting Level 3 next week! Please remember that our Target Open House is virtual this year and is scheduled for Tuesday, September 7th at 5:00. The link was sent to you via email through CTLS. Can't wait to "see" you there! The first couple of weeks back in ALP have been GREAT! We have already began our new unit titled "Perspective" and the students seem to be enthralled with the content already! This unit will focus on three different areas: Art, Statistics and History. The goal is to help the children gain an understanding of the different viewpoints of others, physical or philosophical, in order to support them in obtaining successful collaboration and interpersonal relationships. While studying this unit, students will examine the role of perspective in our lives. They will have an opportunity to take the perspective of members of different groups in history and examine their opinions and perspectives on the events and people of today. We live in an information society where we are constantly bombarded with other people's thoughts and ideas. The students should end this unit with a better understanding on how to research information to see what is true, false or simply a fallacy in an effort to be able to better form their own ideas and opinions about the world. All Target units include all ALP standards such as divergent, convergent and evaluative thinking skills which are incorporated into the daily activities.
Algebraic Thinking this year will introduce negative integers for fourth graders and will begin to focus more on multi-step word problems. Fourth grade will begin Level 2 of the Hands-on Equations program next week. Fifth grade will begin Level 3. Both groups spent the first couple of weeks reviewing information from last year in an effort to refresh the major concepts of the program. Please remember that each lesson builds upon the previous one so tutorial videos are always available for students to practice at home when needed. Affective Growth this year: Fourth Grade: Group Dynamics and Team Building Fifth Grade: Goal Setting and Interpersonal Skills We are off to a great start! Welcome back to school and to Target class!
